The Tulane Maritime Law Journal opened submissions for Volume 50 in late Spring of 2025. We are positing again to remind everyone interested that we will remain open for submissions until late Fall 2025 (sometime between October and December). So please feel free to submit through Scholastica or submit via email at epham1@tulane.edu. Moreover, please see below some submission guidelines.
Submission Overview
The Tulane Maritime Law Journal (TMLJ) accepts submissions from law school graduates in the United States and abroad.
A central focus of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal has always been practicability within the maritime legal industry. We strive to provide our readers with scholarship they cannot find elsewhere that will be useful in their daily practices. To that end, we mainly publish articles covering commercial maritime law (whether it be under U.S. law or the law of another country) or private international law. Conversely, submissions focusing solely on law of the sea or public international law are often too tangentially related to this publication goal. If you have further questions regarding the Journal's areas of interest, you may refer to articles selected for previous issues or contact the Senior Articles Editor, Evan Pham, at epham1@tulane.edu.
The Journal publishes three times per year, in Winter, Spring and Summer issues. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Submission Guidelines
The Journal accepts article submissions via Scholastica, using the “Submit Manuscript” button above. We also accept submissions via email, sent to the Senior Articles Editor, Evan Pham, at epham1@tulane.edu. Please attach the most recent version of the manuscript as well as a resume/CV.
Email submissions and submissions via Scholastica are preferred, but hard copies may be sent to the Senior Articles Editor at our address.

Substantive & Technical Guidelines
Style
Please submit articles formatted in .doc or .docx in Times, Times New Roman, or Courier Fonts, double-spaced, using 12-point font.
Please provide an article summary or “abstract” to your article, as well as an introduction. Please use accurate and descriptive headings and subheadings for each section. A table of contents is recommended, but optional.
There are no length restrictions. The author’s discretion should determine the appropriate length.
Citations
Text and citations should conform to the 21st edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. Footnotes or endnotes are accepted. Please footnote each sentence and provide a source. The only sentences that should not include a footnote are analyses and opinions made by the author.
SPECIAL NOTE ON CITED SOURCES The Tulane Maritime Law Journal takes great pride in its editorial process, which primarily involves conducting thorough due diligence by reviewing each source cited in an article chosen for publication. To facilitate this process, all cited sources must be readily accessible via the standard legal / academic research tools (court reporters, Lexis/Westlaw/InterLibrary Loan, HeinOnline, etc.).
Authors selected for publication must be prepared to supply those sources that are not available via the standard legal / academic research tools. Authors selection for publication must cite to sources that are in English. For those sources that are not in English, the Author must be prepared to provide English translations for those sources. Articles may be precluded from publication if in the Senior Articles Editor's due diligence, they find that an Article's sources are either inaccessible, not offered in English, or that the Author is not able and/or willing to assist with providing, in appropriate form.
Please feel free to email epham1@tulane.edu with any questions. We look forward to making Volume 50 special!
